Werner Trelenberg

Werner Trelenberg (born September 16, 1934 in Strausberg ) is a German athletics trainer .

Life

Trelenberg finished his studies at the German University for Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig in 1962 with a diploma thesis on the subject of "Investigation of the leisure activities of brigades in the state-owned tillage equipment Leipzig with special consideration of physical culture". Until 1961 he was an active athlete himself as a hurdler. After completing his studies, Trelenberg worked as a teacher at the DHfK for two years. In the 1960s and 1970s, in collaboration with other experts, he published analyzes of child and youth spartakiads as well as insights into top-level training in the magazine theory and practice of competitive sports.

In 1969 he took up a position in the German Association for Athletics of the GDR (DVfL) as a trainer for sprint / hurdles, in 1974 he was promoted to head coach at DVfL. As a track and field trainer, he took part in five Olympic Games. Later he was also a member of the DVfL board and from May 1989 deputy director of the Kienbaum sports school .

On September 1, 1990 Trelenberg became the sports director of the Austrian Athletics Association (ÖLV). In 2009, the former ÖLV President Helmut Donner was quoted by the newspaper Der Standard regarding Trelenberg's past in GDR sport as saying: “He (Trelenberg) knew that and how doping was carried out, but was certainly not actively involved himself. And with us it was guaranteed to be clean. "
