Setup date 2009

The FFH area NSG Weseler Aue is around 31 hectares and is located in Wesel on the Lower Rhine . It covers a land area between the Auesee and the federal road 8 in the Wesel district of Feldmark . As an FFH area, it forms part of the European Natura 2000 network of protected areas .

The part of the name "NSG" refers to the previously independent nature reserve designation of this area. The former NSG Weseler Aue was considerably expanded in 2009 and renamed Weseler Aue and Leygraben near Flüren ; the FFH area lies entirely in this nature reserve.

The Weseler Aue is a complex of reed beds , hard and soft wood alluvial stands as well as pasture grassland in a silted loop of the Rhine . In addition, there are also smaller stocks of oat meadows . The temporarily flooded alluvial forest locations are located in clay excavations about one meter deep in the otherwise mostly flat terrain and consist mainly of willows , ash , poplar and alder . The preservation and long-term development of the alluvial forest complex are in the foreground of the conservation efforts.

As a species of Community interest under the Fauna-Flora-Habitats and Birds Directives can be found in the nature reserve in particular nightingales , orioles and warblers .
