In 1985, the club's ocean-going racing yacht Diva (together with the Outsider and the Rubin G VIII ) won the Admiral's Cup ; one of the most important sailing competitions for offshore yachts at the time. The diva was owned by Friederich Dieckell and Peter Westphal-Langloh, while Berend Beilken was the skipper .

The Diva has been exhibited in the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven since 1992 .

Regattas

Red sand regatta

Since 1968, the WYC has organized the Rotesand Regatta two weeks before Pentecost every year . The regatta track is around 55 nm long and runs from Bremerhaven around the Roter Sand lighthouse and back up the Weser to Bremerhaven. The Rotesand Regatta has developed over the years into one of the most important sailing regattas on the Weser. For the 50th anniversary of the regatta on May 5, 2018, over 80 yachts had registered.

North Sea Week

In 1920 Hermann Huss (Weser Yacht Club Bremerhaven), Alex Theye (Weser Yacht Club Bremen) and J. Wortmann ( North German Regatta Association ) met to advertise a joint regatta to Heligoland . The aim was to get young people used to the high seas again. 27 yachts registered for the first race in 1922 from Bremerhaven to Cuxhaven. This meeting later became the North Sea Week , which is now organized annually by the North Sea Week regatta community.

environmental Protection

The Weser Yacht Club Bremerhaven is actively committed to environmental protection. In 2020 he was awarded the Blue Flag , a seal of quality for marinas, for the 14th time for his commitment to environmental protection.
