Wesh is the first mixtape by German rapper Mortel , which was released as a free download on May 1st, 2016. A successor under the title Wesh Wesh was planned for 2017, but it ultimately appeared under the title Racaille .
General
The title refers to the word “Wesh”, which is widespread in the French hip-hop scene and can be translated colloquially as “What is going ?!” or “Yo!”. Wesh comes from the expression wesh labas or wesh rak ("how are you?") (Moroccan Algerian dialect)
The songs of the mixtape can be assigned to the area of street rape. The album contains elements typical of hip-hop music such as the strong personal appreciation of the protagonist (“ Pirate ”, “ FDJ ”), his everyday life (“ Deja vu ”, “ A day with me ”), topics such as drugs, Violence and fashion (“ Racaille ”, “ Panamerica ”) as well as personal texts (“ friend or foe ”, “ time to think about ”). The mix tape was mainly produced and mixed by Phunc & Flek . In addition, controlled X-plosive , Souleyman beats, and Ear2ThabEat cameo in productions. The mastering was done by Volker Gebhardt.

The music video for Pirate and the split video Bedenkzeit / FDJ were released at the end of 2015 . At the beginning of 2016, the intro of the same name for the mixtape Wesh followed on Aggro.tv. The rapper Fler Mortel also mentioned positively in an interview on the Hiphop.de portal . In April 2016, friend or foe was visualized. On May 2, 2016, one day after the mixtape was released, a music video about Teufel im Nacken was released in the studio . In addition, Mortel accompanied the rappers Booba , Fler, Bonez MC , Jalil and Gzuz at various appearances on which he presented some of the mixtape's tracks. Then the song Pirate was released as a digital single in mid-2017.

Louis Richter from rap.de called Mortel a talented rapper with a concise voice who has “ an ear for aesthetics ”. The beats of the mixtape are " all of high quality ", but one thirsts for variety " at least halfway through the playing time ". He would like Mortel to show more emotions. In view of his good voice, he “does too little with this tool ”. On the other hand, Mortel is given an incredibly high level of authenticity.
Gilbert from rap-n-blues.com writes that Mortel knows how to entertain through “ snotty arrogance and ignorance ”. It is nice to see “ that there are German rap acts whose influences are obvious, but they don't sound like a copy of them, but rather know how to entertain with the addition of their own note ”. In addition, the editor emphasizes that the support for Mortel from the 187 Strassenbande , Fler and Blut & Kassel is completely justified and “ doesn't just come from somewhere ”.
