Wessam Salamana , also Wessam Slamana (born October 26, 1985 in Damascus ) is a Syrian amateur boxer and 2012 Olympian in the bantamweight division .

Career

The multiple Syrian champion won the gold medal at the 2009 Arab championships in Cairo and a bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games in Pescara . He was in the semifinals with 1: 2 defeated Vittorio Parrinello . At the 2009 World Championships in Milan , he defeated David Ponce and Garnik Harutyunyan before being eliminated in the round of 16 against Chatchai Butdee .

In 2010 he won a bronze medal at the Pan-Arab Military Games in Cairo and the Asian Games in Guangzhou . He lost it in the semifinals against Mohammed Ouadahi and Worapoj Petchkoom . At the Asian Olympic qualification in Astana in 2012 he only lost in the final against Shiva Thapa and thus achieved second place. This entitled him to participate in the 2012 Olympic Games in London , where he was eliminated in the first fight against Kanat Abutalipow.
