The West Auckland Admirals are a New Zealand ice hockey club based in Auckland , founded in 2005 and playing in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League . The Admirals play their home games at Paradice Avondale . In 2018 the club became New Zealand champions for the first time.
history
The West Auckland Admirals were formed in 2005 along with the New Zealand Ice Hockey League , in which they became one of four founding members. In their first season they reached second place in the regular season and thus qualified for the finals, in which they were defeated by Southern Stampede with 1: 2 and 3: 6. This was followed by two fourth and thus last places, before they were fourth again in 2008, but from five participants in the NZIHL.
In the 2010 season the Admirals were able to move into the final of the NZIHL for the second time in the club's history, but were again defeated by the opponent, this time Botany Swarm , with 1: 3. Even when they took part in the finals in 2017 it was not enough for the title, both finals were lost to the Southern Stampede . A year later, however, the first championship win was achieved against the same opponent.
