Josef Dierzer Ritter von Traunthal (born February 15, 1800 in Linz , † November 8, 1857 ) was an Austrian textile industrialist and politician.

Life

Industry

Dierzer, son of the sheep wool manufacturer Johann Nep. Dierzer (1763–1822), took over his father's company after his death. He is considered an industrial pioneer, among other things he was a co-founder of the Lambacher flax spinning mill in Stadl-Paura and new companies in the textile industry such as in Theresiental or Linz- Kleinmünchen . In 1851 Dierzer was raised to the hereditary Austrian knighthood as a knight of Traunthal .

politics

From 1850 to 1857 Dierzer was councilor of the Upper Austrian state capital Linz and from March 21 to 23, 1854 vice mayor. After the short-term mayor Johann Heinrich Jungwirth, Dierzer was mayor from March 23, 1854 to November 12, 1856 (from a legal point of view, the provisional council). Dierzer was also the first president of the newly founded Upper Austria Chamber of Commerce.

family

After Josef Dierzer's death, his wife Cäcilie Dierzer (1808–1897) continued to run the business. Their sons Josef and Emil Dierzer von Traunthal finally took over the carpet factory and cotton mill. Emil was also politically active and, among other things, deputy governor of Upper Austria for 20 years. The members of the Dierzer family are buried at the St. Barbara cemetery in Linz.
