Coordinates: 41 ° 53 ′  S , 145 ° 20 ′  E The West Coast Municipality is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Tasmania . The area is 9575 km² and has about 4000 inhabitants (2016).

The West Coast Municipality occupies most of the island's west coast and is approximately 200 kilometers northwest of the capital, Hobart . The area comprises 11 hamlets and towns: Gormanston, Granville Harbor, Lake Margaret, Macquarie Heads, Queenstown , Renison Bell, Rosebery , Strahan , Trial Harbor, Tullah and Zeehan. The seat of the council is in Zeehan in the north of the LGA, where about 700 inhabitants live (2016).

The West Coast Council has nine members. The mayor (mayor), his deputy (deputy) and seven councilors are directly elected by the residents of the LGA. The West Coast is not divided into districts.
