The Sydney Ice Dogs are a semi-professional Australian ice hockey club based in Liverpool , New South Wales , founded in 2002 and playing in the Australian Ice Hockey League .

history

The club was included in the course of the league expansion in 2002 together with Melbourne Ice and the Newcastle North Stars in the Australian Ice Hockey League , the top division in the country. In their second season, the Ice Dogs reached the playoff final in 2003, but lost 4-1 to the North Stars, who were also only in their second season. A year later, Western Sydney retaliated with a 3-1 final win over Newcastle. Because of these two finals, there is a rivalry between the fan groups of both teams. It then took nine years for the Ice Dogs to win their second national title. That same year, the team also won the H Newman Reid Trophy as the main round winner.
