The West Bay is a bay in the East Antarctic Kaiser Wilhelm II Land . It lies on the west side of the Posadowskybai immediately east of the west ice shelf .
It was discovered in February 1902 during the Gauss expedition (1901–1903) under the direction of the German polar explorer Erich von Drygalski . It is named after the naming of the neighboring ice shelf .
