The Nauta district is located in the Loreto Province in the Loreto region in northeastern Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 6762 km². At the 2017 census, 32,020 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 25,707, in 2007 28,681. The administrative seat is the provincial capital Nauta, 111 m high on the north bank of the Río Marañón , with 20,716 inhabitants (as of 2017).
Geographical location
The Nauta district is located in the Peruvian Amazon in the southeast of the Loreto province. The Río Marañón crosses the district in an easterly direction and unites in the east of the district with the Río Ucayali flowing in from the south to form the Amazon . The Río Tigre crosses the north-west of the district in its lower reaches.
The district of Nauta is bordered to the west by the district of Parinari , to the northwest by the district of Tigre , to the north by the district of San Juan Bautista ( province of Maynas ), to the east by the district of Fernando Lores (also in the province of Maynas) and to the southeast and south to the districts of Saquena , Jenaro Herrera and Requena (all three in the province of Requena ).
