The Requena district is located in the Requena Province in the Loreto region in northeastern Peru . The district was established on July 2, 1943. The district was named after Francisco Requena y Herrera (1743-1824), governor of Maynas.

The district has an area of ​​3074 km². The 2017 census counted 27,232 residents. In 1993 the population was 20,314, in 2007 it was 25,987. The district administration is located in the 114  m high provena capital Requena with 24,418 inhabitants (as of 2017).

Geographical location

The Requena District is located in the Amazon lowlands in the northeast of the Requena Province. The district extends over the lower reaches of the Río Tapiche and the river section of the Río Ucayali around the Tapiche estuary. The Matsés National Reserve extends partly over the east of the Requena district.

The district of Requena is bordered to the west by the districts of Capelo and Puinahua , to the northwest by the districts of Parinari and Nauta (both in the province of Loreto ), to the northeast by the Jenaro Herrera district , to the east by the Yaquerana district and to the south by the Soplin districts and tapiche .
