The Capelo district is located in the Requena Province in the Loreto region in northeastern Peru . The district was established on July 20, 1946. It has an area of ​​801 km². The 2017 census counted 2639 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3191, in 2007 it was 3941. The district administration is located in the 118  m high village of Flor de Punga with 1774 inhabitants (as of 2017). Flor de Punga is located 50 km southwest of the provincial capital Requena .

Geographical location

The Capelo district is located in the Amazon basin in the central northwest of the Requena province. The right arm of the Río Ucayali crosses the district in a northerly direction.

The Capelo district borders on the Emilio San Martín district to the south, the Puinahua district to the west and northwest and the Requena district to the east .
