The Saquena district is located in the Requena Province in the Loreto region in northeastern Peru . The district was established on July 2, 1943. It extends over an area of ​​2596 km². The 2017 census counted 3438 inhabitants. In 2007 the population was 4536. The district administration is located in the 112  m high village of Bagazán with 1100 inhabitants (as of 2017). Bagazán is located about 50 km west southwest of the provincial capital Requena .

Geographical location

The Saquena district is located in the Amazon lowlands in the far north of the Requena province. It extends over the catchment area of the lower river kilometers of the Río Ucayali and extends in the extreme north to its union with the Río Marañón to the Amazon .

The Saquena district borders in the southwest on the Jenaro Herrera district , in the northwest on the Nauta district ( Alto Amazonas province ), in the northeast on the Fernando Lores district ( Maynas province ), in the east on the Yavarí district ( Mariscal Ramón Castilla province ) and in the Southeast to the Yaquerana district .
