The Jenaro Herrera district is located in the Requena Province in the Loreto region in northeastern Peru . The district was founded on October 19, 1993 from parts of the Saquena district . The district was named after Genaro Herrera (1861-1939), a Peruvian writer and cartographer. The district extends over an area of ​​1160 km². The 2017 census counted 5024 inhabitants. In 2007 the population was 5116. The district administration is located in the 110  m high town of Jenaro Herrera with 3926 inhabitants (as of 2017). Jenaro Herrera is located 27 km northeast of the provincial capital Requena .

Geographical location

The Jenaro Herrera district is located in the Amazon lowlands in the north of the Requena province on the lower reaches of the Río Ucayali .

The Jenaro Herrera District is bordered on the southwest by the district Requena , in the northwest on the district Nauta ( province of Alto Amazonas ), in the northeast on the district Saquena and on the southeast by the district Yaquerana .
