The Río Tapiche is an approximately 680 km long right tributary of the Río Ucayali in northeastern Peru in the province of Requena in the Loreto region .
River course
The Río Tapiche rises in the Sierra de Contamana , a mountain range in the western Amazon lowlands , right on the border with Brazil . The headwaters are at an altitude of around 550 m . The Río Tapiche initially flows through the ridge for a distance of 25 km in a predominantly south-south-west direction. It then turns to the northwest and runs along the southwest flank of the ridge. From river kilometer 470 the Río Tapiche turns north-northeast. At river km 122 the Río Blanco meets the Río Tapiche from the right. This now turns to the north. The Río Tapiche finally flows into the Río Ucayali near the provincial capital Requena on the right bank of the river, 134 km above its junction with the Río Marañón to the Amazon . The Río Tapiche shows a strongly meandering behavior with countless river bends and oxbow lakes along its entire course .
