River course
The Río Tigre arises in the Ecuadorian province Pastaza at the confluence of the Río Conambo and Río Pintoyacu . After 600 m the river crosses the border to Peru. It flows mainly in a south-easterly direction through the province of Loreto . It forms numerous river loops and oxbow lakes on its course through the Amazon lowlands . The Río Pucacuro flows into the river on the left at river kilometer 345. At river kilometer 275 the Río Tigre passes the municipality of Intuto on the right bank of the river . At a river kilometer 200 km, the Río Corrientes meets the Río Tigre from the right. This finally flows into the Río Marañón, 86 km above its junction with the Río Ucayali to the Amazon .
Catchment area
The Río Tigre drains an area of around 42,000 km². 9120 km² of this is in Ecuador. Only 92 km² of the catchment area are at an altitude of over 500 m .
