The Río Corrientes is an approximately 650 km long right tributary of the Río Tigre in Ecuador and Peru .

River course

The Río Corrientes rises in the Ecuadorian province of Pastaza on the western edge of the Amazon lowlands at an altitude of about 450  m , 90 km east-southeast of the city of Puyo . The Río Corrientes flows mainly in a south-easterly direction. At river km 500 it crosses the border to Peru and then flows through the Peruvian province of Loreto . For the last 125 kilometers, the Río Corrientes turns east. At river kilometer 110 the river passes the small town and at the same time the district administration center Villa Trompeteros . 11 km above the estuary is the place Sargento Lores on the north bank of the river. The Río Corrientes finally flows into the Río Tigre, 200 kilometers above its mouth in the Río Marañón . The Río Corrientes has numerous bends and oxbow lakes .

Catchment area

The Río Corrientes drains an area of ​​around 15,000 km². The catchment area in Ecuador covers an area of ​​2020 km². Only 90 km² of the catchment area are above an altitude of 500  m . The catchment area borders on the Río Bobonaza and the Río Pastaza to the west, and the Río Conambo and the Río Tigre run to the east .
