The Urarinas district is located in the Loreto Province in the Loreto region in northeastern Peru . The district was established on July 2, 1943. It was named after the Urarina ethnic group .
The district has an area of 15,894 km². The 2017 census counted 13,053 residents. In 1993 the population was 7025, in 2007 it was 11,438. The administrative center is the town of Maypuco, 112 m high on the south bank of the Río Marañón , with 1,333 inhabitants (as of 2017). Maypuco is 175 km west-southwest of the provincial capital Nauta . Originally the district administration was in Concordia.
Geographical location
The Urarinas district is located in the Peruvian Amazon in the central west of the Loreto province. The Río Marañón crosses the extreme south of the district in an easterly direction. The catchment areas of Río Urituyacu and Río Patayacu, both left tributaries of the Río Marañón, form a large part of the area.
The Urarinas district is bordered by the Lagunas district ( Alto Amazonas province ) in the west, the Andoas district ( Datem del Marañón province ) in the north-west, the Trompeteros district in the north, the Tigre district in the north-east and the Tigre district in the east and south to the Parinari district .
