The Institute for Ecumenical Research (French: Center d'études œcuméniques ; English: Institute for Ecumenical Research ) in Strasbourg is supported by the Lutheran Foundation for Intercofessional Research - Lutheran World Federation - and is an independent institution within the Lutheran World Federation that cooperates with the entrusted to interdenominational research and interdenominational dialogue. It was founded in 1965 by the Lutheran World Federation and is headed by Jennifer Wasmuth . The institute is independent of the member churches of the Lutheran World Federation.
The institute's events, which focus on the field of interdenominational dialogue, serve both to clarify internal Lutheran positions and to prepare for dialogues with other denominations. In addition to permanent research professors, there are also associated professors, mostly from the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the University of Strasbourg . They currently include Matthieu Arnold , André Birmelé and Elisabeth Parmentier ; former professors were u. a. Marc Lienhard , Günther Gassmann , Carter Lindberg , Per Lønning and Gunther Wenz .
There is a scientific cooperation with the Ecumenical Institute of the University of Tübingen and the denominational institute of the Evangelical Federation in Bensheim in the Southwest Federation . There are contacts to ecumenical offices in Geneva .
