Coordinates: 26 ° 44 ′ S , 150 ° 35 ′ E The Western Downs Region is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Queensland . The area is 37,938 km² and has about 33,400 inhabitants.
geography
The region is located in the southeast of the state about 175 km west of the capital Brisbane .
The largest city and administrative seat of the LGA is Dalby with around 12,000 inhabitants. history
Today's Western Downs Region was created in 2008 from Dalby Town, the four Shires Chinchilla, Murilla, Tara, Wambo and the southern part of the Taroom Shires. Originally the merger was called Dalby Region, in 2009 the LGA was given its current name.
administration
The Western Downs Regional Council has nine members. The mayor (mayor) and eight other councilors are elected by all residents of the region. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
