The Westerwälder Tor is an arched bridge in Aegidienberg , a district of Bad Honnef in the North Rhine-Westphalian Rhein-Sieg district , which was built in 1938. The structure runs along state road 143 between the districts of Hövel in the south-west and Brüngsberg in the north-east on federal motorway 3 .

The overpass is considered to be one of the few stone bridges still preserved that were built during the construction of the Reichsautobahn , with its graywacke masonry , its large circular segment arch and its inner round arches as an art monument . The structure is named after its location at the north-western entrance of the Westerwald , through which the motorway runs in the direction of Frankfurt am Main after passing under the bridge .

The 79 meter long road bridge spans an incision in the motorway route and at a height of 17.5 meters crosses two 3.5 meter wide lanes of the state road and a 2.45 meter wide sidewalk and bike path. 50 centimeter wide and 95 centimeter high parapets form the side closure.

The 11.1 meter wide arch of the bridge has the geometry of a segment of a circle with a radius of 25.01 meters, an arrow height of around 12.40 meters and a span of 44.58 meters. The arch thickness is 1.1 meters in the crown and 1.9 meters in the fighter . The transverse recesses, six on each side, have a clear width of 2.9 meters. In between there are 1.1 meter thick pillars. The cavities across the bridge axis serve to reduce the dead weight and to structure and loosen the end faces.

From October 2018 to August 2019, the bridge was partially repaired, in the course of which, among other things, the joints in the masonry were renewed and the retaining walls were rebuilt.
