Westford, Massachusetts

Westford is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts , about 3 miles south of the Merrimack River .

history

In the 18th and 19th centuries, granite, apples and worsted were the most important products of the place. After the Civil War , some of the residents worked in Lowell (Massachusetts) and later also in Boston . Several churches were built, including the Catholic Katharinenkirche. In the 1960s, the city was one of the locations where research was carried out on Project West Ford . The population, which was below 5,000 by the Second World War, rose to more than 20,000 by the year 2000.

politics

The official rules and regulations are set by five elected people. A manager is employed for daily administration. The residents can help shape urban politics in spring and autumn by taking part in assemblies in which, among other things, the financial budget is voted on.

Economy and Infrastructure

One of the companies located here is Puma (company) , whose North American headquarters are here. There are several elementary schools and one high school . The US Highway 3 runs and several local roads here.

The MIT Haystack Observatory is located in Westford .
