As Western powers are referred to collectively

• the main adversaries of the Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc or Warsaw Pact, allied in NATO during the Cold War (1945–1991) : United States , Canada , Great Britain and France ; From their occupation zones in West Germany , the Federal Republic of Germany emerged as another major NATO power in 1949 .
