West Prussian Song
The West Prussian song is a West Prussian regional anthem . The form is based on other older native songs, for example “ City of Hamburg on the Elbe Auen ”, the Pomeranian song or “ Schleswig-Holstein Meerumschlungen ”.
Hugo Hartmann composed the West Prussian song in 1902. The lyrics are from Paul Felske . In his honor, the then mayor of the West Prussian city of Marienburg , now Malbork in the Polish Pomeranian Voivodeship , donated the Hartmann-Felske memorial in 1920 . The monument is located in the city garden of Marienburg. It consists of two boulders in which the first notes of the West Prussian song are engraved.
song lyrics
- West Prussia, my dear homeland,
how beautiful you are!
My whole heart, turned to you,
should praise you.
In the Weichselgau we build huts
where grain and fruit sprout from the corridor,
where milk and honey flow.
Refrain:
where grain and fruit sprout from the corridor,
where milk and honey flow. - O country,
blossomed through German efficiency and German industry
, my heart swears devotion to you
and loyalty my heart .
Through German strength and science,
let
your German character, German nature be preserved at all times.
Refrain:
be a German being, be a German nature
at all times. - How lovely greet the forest and field,
many a blue lake in the valley. That's why there is no more beautiful country in the
world
to choose from.
In the Weichselgau, on a flowery meadow
, I want to be buried one day,
I go to rest.
Refrain:
if I want to be buried one day,
I go to rest.
