The Indonesian island of Wetan ( indon. Pulau Wetan , Pulau Wetang ) belongs to the Babar Islands of the southern Moluccas .

geography

Wetan is located west of the main island of Babar . Together with its western part and the island of Dai in the north, Wetan forms the sub-district ( Kecamatan ) Pulau-Pulau Babar ( Kabupaten of the southwestern Moluccas , Maluku Province ).

In contrast to Babar and Dai, Wetan is only a relatively flat island made of limestone. There are no fresh water sources, the population is dependent on collecting rainwater in cisterns, especially for the driest time between September and December. Accordingly, fishing and handicrafts are the main sources of income for the islanders.
