Weather fax
A weather fax (also Wefax ) is a radio service with a special type of modulation with which either gray-scale satellite images or monochrome weather maps are usually sent on shortwave .
For shipping, complete weather fax receivers with printers are available from Furuno and Fastnet.
Colloquially, meteorological fax on-demand services are also referred to as weather faxes.
The radio transmission of fax images is popular with radio amateurs because it is narrow-band and resistant to interference and can be sent, received and displayed with relatively simple means ( PC with sound card and suitable software ).
