Wharton Brook State Park is a state park on US Route 5 in the North Haven and Wallingford area in the US state of Connecticut .
In the early 1900s, the park was a forerunner of today's highway rest stops, and in addition to its picnic area, it had auto repair facilities. Today the New Haven – Springfield railway line runs along its western border and the Wharton Brook Connector of Interstate 91 runs north of the park .
Freetime activities
In the park is the Allen Brook Pond, which is fed by the stream of the same name and the Wharton Brook , a tributary of the Quinnipiac River . Fishing and swimming are allowed. There are also large picnic areas. The park is a designated trout park and is stocked with trout several times a year. Therefore great blue herons and other fish-eating wild animals are often found at the lake. Nearby are the Sleeping Giant State Park and Quinnipiac River State Park , as well as the William D Bertini Park .
