Whitburn Parish Kirk

The Whitburn Parish Kirk or Whitburn Parish Church is a church building of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland in the Scottish village of Whitburn in the Council Area West Lothian . In 1980 the structure was included in the Scottish Monument Lists in Monument Category B. The church is still in use as such.

history

The first church was built on this site in 1718. With the split of the Parish from Linlithgow , the church became a parish church and in 1729 it was extensively expanded. Around 1930 a pre-existing staircase was removed. On December 18, 1955, the interior burned out. The building was then restored.

description

Whitburn Parish Kirk is on Manse Road in the center of town. The building is built from quarry stone in the Georgian style . The church with a bell tower equipped and concludes with slate roofs gable roofs . In the surrounding cemetery there is a crypt of the Baronets Baillie of Polkemmet . Memorial plaques and gravestones are set into the ornamented masonry. The building is plastered with Harl and closes with a flat roof .
