White Escarpment is an approximately 28 km long step on the western edge of the Heritage Range , the southern part of the West Antarctic Ellsworth Mountains . The ice flows over them from the highlands in the west in an easterly direction into the valleys of the Heritage Range, where it feeds two glaciers .

In numerous places, parts of the step protrude from the eternal ice, which drops here to the west by up to 200 meters. In the southwest, the White Escarpment is dominated by the Cagle Peaks , which are up to 2070 meters high , and the central part is dominated by the three Thompson Nunataks . In the north is the 1910 high Navigator Peak . The eternal ice that flows over the step and down between the towering rocks forms the Dobbratz Glacier to the east , which flows through between the Watlack Hills and Gifford Peaks . In the north, the White Escarpment is surrounded by the Splettstoesser glacier .

The stage got its name from a geological expedition from the University of Minnesota , which explored this area in the summer of 1963/64. It was named after Chief Warrant Officer Ronald B. White, a pilot in the 62nd Transportation Detachment who supported the expedition on site.
