The Watlack Hills are a chain of mostly ice-free peaks in the western part of the Heritage Range of the Ellsworth Mountains in the West Antarctic Ellsworthland . The Dobbratz Glacier flows around them in the south and east, the White Escarpment in the west and the Splettstoesser Glacier in the north .
The peaks of the chain include the 2000 m high Mount Twiss at the northern end, the 1450 m high Skelly Peak at the end of a spur at the northeast end and the 1730 m high Carnell Peak in the southern part.
The Watlack Hills got their name from a geological expedition of the University of Minnesota , which explored the area in the summer of 1963/64. She named the chain after Chief Warrant Officer Richard G. Watlack (1932-2011), a pilot of the 62nd Transportation Detachment of the United States Army , who supported the expedition on site.
