The Carnell Peak is a 1,730 m high mountain in the West Antarctic Ellsworth Land . It rises in the southern part of the Watlack Hills in the Heritage Range of the Ellsworth Mountains .
The mountain was mapped by the United States Geological Survey as part of the survey of the Ellsworth Mountains from 1961 to 1966 through field surveys and aerial photographs by the United States Navy . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him after Lieutenant Donald Lee Carnell of the Civil Engineer Corps of the United States Navy. Carnell served in the Antarctic summer 1965/66 as a maintenance officer on the Williams Field runway in McMurdo Sound and was responsible for the first drilling of the Ross Ice Shelf to a depth of 50 meters.
