Friedrich Entholt

Johann Friedrich Entholt (born November 13, 1823 in Bremen , † November 5, 1916 in Bremen) was a German educator and chairman of the Vorwärts association in Bremen.

biography

The son of a sailmaker who lived on Spielleutestrasse in the Stephaniviertel in Bremen was removed. He graduated from the parish school of St. Stephani and then became a teacher. In 1839 he worked at a private school in Neustadt . From 1840 he taught at the parish school of the Liebfrauenkirche Bremen . He lived in the small, still existing sexton's house next to the church in the Unser-Lieben-Frauen-Kirchhof and also attended the Bremen teachers' seminar . In 1853 he became the head teacher of the school.

From 1865 to 1902, Entholt was chairman of the Vorwärts association , which was founded in 1846 and had its headquarters in the Vorwärts house at 5 Sandstrasse. The association advocated better education and targeted leisure activities for workers. He was also active in various other organizations. In newspaper articles he wrote about the history of the Bremen school system . In 1928 his articles were combined into a book.

His son was Hermann Entholt (1870–1957), historian and director of the archive in Bremen .
