White Heat was an English new wave of British heavy metal band from London that was formed in 1983 and disbanded in 1986.

history

After he had already released a record with his solo project JJ's Powerhouse , Jon "JJ" Cox, who lives in London, started looking for musicians for a new project. He was joined by bassist John Tucker and drummer Kevin Cassidy, whereupon a band with a relatively unstable line-up formed. The position of the singer in particular changed frequently. Because this made it possible for Cox to increase his awareness in the local scene. It was only with the addition of the singer Ian Aidey that the cast became more stable. Towards the end of 1983 White Heat was set as the band name. The name was taken from the film Leap in Death (originally titled White Heat ). Aidey left the group a short time later, whereupon John Dunning joined. The group then began to write their first songs before they signed a record deal with the RSR label for the release of a single in mid-1984, possibly with some help from Dunnings . The Ray Dorset- produced single Soldier of Fortune with the song Lovemaker as the b-side was released in 1984. Local appearances followed and White Heat gained fans across the UK beyond the local radius , as well as on mainland Europe . Here the band gave concerts in Belgium and the Netherlands , and a performance was filmed in Amsterdam . After that, Dunning left the cast and was replaced by Tim Bromfield. Since Cox could not get the casting problems under control and so the continuity was missing, the group was dissolved in the second half of 1986.

style

Malc Macmillan noted in The NWOBHM Encyclopedia that especially the A-side of the single is remarkable and memorable and reminds of groups like Salem , Chariot and also JJ's Powerhouse. Lovemaker , on the other hand, is the opposite of the title song, is more geared towards commercial success and also slippery. Other songs like Out of My Life or Breaking Free , which are not included on the single, offer more powerful moments and have more in common with groups like Lääz Rockit than with any British band.
