The White Mountains are a 115 km long mountain range of the Tanana Hills in the interior of Alaska .
The White Mountains are bounded in the west by Beaver Creek and in the east by Preacher Creek . The upper reaches of Beaver Creek is in the White Mountains National Recreation Area and is designated as a National Wild and Scenic River .
The mountain range consisting of white limestone was named by prospectors at the beginning of the 20th century . The Steese Highway from Fairbanks in the Tanana Valley to Circle on the Yukon runs through the White Mountains.
