The White Park (English and White Park Cattle ) or White Park Cattle and English Park Cattle -called beef from England is bred to any particular type of use cattle breed.

The breed is listed as Endangered by the UK Rare Breeds Survival Trust .

The animals reach a height at the withers of 130 to 137 centimeters and weigh between 400 and 450 kilograms (cow) and 600 to 700 kilograms (bull). The White Park is pigment-free, whereby the eyes, ears and muzzle are black. This is albinism, which is based on a heat-sensitive tyrosinase, as is also the case with the point mutation in domestic cats .

history

This breed of cattle arose in the park of Chillingham in Northumberland through inbreeding , when the approximately 120 hectare park there was fenced in around 1220 with some white cattle (which are said to have come from the Roman occupiers) (see also Chillingham cattle ).

Charles Darwin subjected this herd to a long-term study in the course of his research on the theory of evolution from 1862 onwards.

Duration

The total population of the breed amounts to a few hundred suckler cows , several bulls and offspring worldwide . There are breeding stocks in the country of origin Great Britain as well as in North America, Denmark, Germany and Australia. The most famous White Park breeding herd in Germany is located in the Warder Ark in Schleswig-Holstein. The breed key is WP 35.
