The Whitefish Lake is a lake in southwest Alaska .
Whitefish Lake is located at a height of 20 m in the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge . The next places are Upper Kalskag (21 km northwest), Aniak (34 km northeast) and Russian Mission (82 km northwest). The almost circular lake has an area of 74.4 km² and a maximum length of 11 km. Coming from the south, Ophir Creek flows into Whitefish Lake. At a distance of almost 12 km, the Kuskokwim River flows north of the lake in a westerly direction. The lake has a drain to the nearby Kuskokwim River.
The name of the lake is derived from the fish found there. The English term whitefish includes several fish species from the family of salmonids , including Prosopium cylindraceum ( "round whitefish"), the Great Siberian whitefish ( Coregonus nasus , "broad whitefish") and the Siberian whitefish ( Coregonus pidschian , "humpback whitefish") and the Herring whitefish ( Coregonus clupeaformis , "lake whitefish"). The fish species Coregonus sardinella ("least cisco") also occurs in the lake .
