The tour of the Australian national cricket team to South Africa in the 1996/97 season took place from February 28 to April 13, 1997. The international cricket tour was part of the 1996/97 international cricket season and included three tests and seven ODIs . Australia won the Test Series 2–1 and the ODI Series 4–3.

Both teams previously played a three-nation tournament in South Africa together with Zimbabwe . The last meeting of the two teams on a tour took place in the 1993/94 season in South Africa .
