Australian national cricket team in Sri Lanka in the 2016 season
The Australian national cricket team's tour to Sri Lanka in the 2016 season took place from July 26th to September 9th, 2016. The international cricket tour was part of the 2016 International Cricket Season and included three Tests , five ODIs and two Twenty20s . Sri Lanka won the Test series 3-0, while Australia won the ODI series with 4-1 and the Twenty20 series 2-0.
prehistory
Sri Lanka previously played a tour in England , Australia previously held a three-nation tournament in the West Indies . The last tour of the two teams against each other took place in the 2012/13 season in Australia .

Australia named its Test squad on May 24th, its ODI squad on July 31, and its Twenty20 squad on September 4, 2016. Sri Lanka named its Test squad on July 21, its ODI squad on August 19 and his Twenty20 squad on September 5, 2016.

After an Australian spectator ran onto the field and exposed himself there , he was fined and given a week's imprisonment. Sri Lanka's victory was only their second win in a Test against Australia after the last one in the 1999 season .

As a consequence of the third Test defeat in this series, Australia lost the lead in the Test ranking to India and fell behind Pakistan to third.

The Sri Lankan all-rounder was fined for appealing excessively, while the Australian Mitchell Starc received a warning for throwing unnecessarily at the opponent's wicket . After the game, the Sri Lankan all-rounder Tillakaratne Dilshan announced his retirement in ODI and Twenty20 cricket after the tour.
