The tour of the English national cricket team to Sri Lanka in the 2018/19 season will take place from October 10th to November 27th, 2018. The international cricket tour is part of the 2018/19 international cricket season and includes three tests , five ODIs and one Twenty20 . England won the ODI series 3–1, the Twenty20 series 1–0, and the Test series 3–0.

prehistory

It is the first tour of the season for both teams. The last meeting of the two teams took place in England in the 2016 season .

Before the game, the Sri Lankan bowler Rangana Herath announced his retirement after the first test. It was the last active test player to make his test debut in the 1990s. The English wicketkeeper Ben Foakes scored his first Century on his test debut . English bowler James Anderson received a fine for openly voicing a disagreement with the umpires. This was the first away test won after not winning the last 14, the longest distance England had to endure so far. The Sri Lankan bowler Akila Dananjaya was referred to the International Cricket Council to test his arm movements because of illegal bowling movements. On December 10, 2018, it was announced that Dananjaya's throwing technique had been classified as illegal during the tests and that he had been banned by the World Association for International Cricket until the time of a positive test result.
