prehistory
England previously played a tour against Pakistan and Bangladesh in New Zealand . The last meeting of the two teams on a tour took place in England in the 2005 season . Shortly before the start of the test series, the Bangladeshi player Raqibul Hasan announced his resignation from international cricket because he was dissatisfied with his position on the team. A week later he announced his resignation, but his contract was terminated by the Bangladeshi association BCB. On this tour, Alastair Cook took over the role of captain in the English test and ODI team for the first time , a role he took over entirely from Andrew Strauss in 2012 .
