English national cricket team in Zimbabwe in the 2001/02 season

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The tour of the English national cricket team to Zimbabwe in the 2001/02 season took place from October 1 to 13, 2001. The international cricket tour was part of the 2001/02 international cricket season and included five ODIs . England won the ODI series 5-0.

prehistory

Zimbabwe previously played a tour against South Africa , for England it was the first tour of the season. The last meeting of the two teams on a tour took place in England in the 2000 season . As the allegations against the government of committing human rights violations increased in Zimbabwe, there were political demands on England to cancel the tour. There were also unrest in the country, which endangered the tour. Ultimately, the Zimbabwean government refused to let the British BBC report on the tour until shortly before the start . When this was clarified, the associations gave the final green light.
