West Indies cricket team in Sri Lanka during the 2001/02 season
The tour of the West Indies cricket team to Sri Lanka in the 2001/02 season took place from November 3 to 29, 2001. The international cricket tour was part of the 2001/02 international cricket season and included three test matches . Sri Lanka won the test series 3-0.
prehistory
Sri Lanka previously played a three-nation tournament , while it was the first tour of the season for the West Indies. The last meeting of the two teams on a tour took place in the 1996/97 season in the West Indies . After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in the USA , the West Indies reviewed their tour program, but decided to hold the tour in Sri Lanka. After parliamentary elections were scheduled for December 5th in Sri Lanka , the tour schedule had to be adjusted by a few days. Sri Lanka tried to avoid having the second test held in Kandy, as they lost the second in Kandy in previous tours after winning the first test in Galle. The original schedule therefore envisaged Kandy as the third test location, but due to the postponements and an intervention by the West Indies, the last two test locations were swapped and Kandy was again the venue for the second test.
