Greg Rallo (born August 26, 1981 in Gurnee , Illinois ) is a former American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Texas Stars in the American Hockey League since July 2017 and plays for them on the position of the center .
Career
Greg Rallo began his career in 2000 in the North American Hockey League with the Springfield Jr. Blues . After two years as his team's top scorer , he began studying marketing management at Ferris State University and played for the Ferris State Bulldogs ice hockey team there. In its first season, the Bulldogs were the team with the highest points of the regular season. In the tournament for the championship of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Rallo reached the final with his team, which was lost to the University of Michigan . When Ferris State University subsequently participated for the first time in the national tournament for the championship of the National Collegiate Athletic Association , the Bulldogs won their first game. In the second round, however, they were eliminated and missed the Frozen Four final series. The 2003/04 and 2004/05 seasons were less successful and the team was eliminated in the first round of the CCHA championship tournament. In his last year for the Bulldogs, Rallo was his team's top scorer and survived the first round, but was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the CCHA tournament.
Then Rallo signed his first professional contract with the Idaho Steelheads from the ECHL in the spring of 2006 and completed seven games each in the regular season and the playoffs . The 2006/07 season began Rallo in the ECHL with the Steelheads, but was called to the American Hockey League during the season and played there for the Iowa Stars . Towards the end of the regular season he returned to the ECHL and was able to win the Kelly Cup with his team after successful playoffs . For the majority of the 2007/08 season, Rallo played again with the Steelheads, in addition to appearances for the Albany River Rats , Rockford IceHogs and Manitoba Moose in the AHL. He completed the next year completely with the Moose, with whom he was defeated by the Hershey Bears in the final of the Calder Cup . For the 2009/10 season Rallo switched to the Texas Stars and was able to establish himself as a top performer in the AHL over two years. In the summer of 2011 he received a contract offer from the Florida Panthers from the National Hockey League , which he accepted. But Rallo mainly played for San Antonio Rampage , the AHL farm team of the Panthers from Texas . He made his debut in the NHL on December 18, 2011 against the Carolina Hurricanes . After his contract was renewed, Rallo continued to play mostly in the AHL, but also came to ten missions in the NHL and scored his first NHL goal on April 2, 2013 against the Tampa Bay Lightning . In the 2013/14 season Rallo was captain at San Antonio Rampage, but missions in the NHL remained.
In August 2014, Rallo returned to the Texas Stars. In the following two years in the AHL, he scored 94 points in 133 games. Nevertheless, Rallo did not receive a new offer in summer 2016. Therefore, after seven years in Texas, he decided to move to Europe and signed an annual contract with the Iserlohn Roosters from the German Ice Hockey League . After spending a year in Germany, the striker returned to the Texas Stars in the AHL for the third time in July 2017. In 2018 Rallo announced the end of his career and has been assistant coach of the Milwaukee Admirals since July 12, 2018 .
