South African national cricket team in Sri Lanka in the 2013 season
The South African national cricket team's tour to Sri Lanka in the 2013 season took place from July 20 to August 6, 2013. The international cricket tour was part of the 2013 international cricket season and included four ODIs and three Twenty20s . Sri Lanka won the ODI series 4-1 while South Africa won the Twenty20 series 2-1. The ODIs that took place were part of the ICC ODI Championship and the Twenty20s were part of the ICC T20I Championship . During the first two ODIs, it was not the regular captain Angelo Mathews who was the captain, but the 23-year-old Dinesh Chandimal , who became the youngest ODI captain of the Sri Lankan national team.
prehistory
Missing tests
The tour took place on the basis of the ICC Future Tours Program 2010–2020. This initially included three additional tests as part of the ICC Test Championship . However, since the Sri Lankan Association needed a time window for the planned Sri Lanka Premier League 2013 , it was agreed to forego this. When the Premier League was finally canceled for financial reasons, it was too late to put the tests back into the schedule and were rescheduled for the following year . The remaining limited-over games were part of the respective ICC rankings. Since both teams had been eliminated in the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 shortly before , this was taken as the start of preparation for the ICC World Twenty20 2014 , which will take place in the following year .
Punish
The Sri Lankan captain was banned from the first two ODIs of this tour due to the fact that he played too slowly in the Tri-Nations tournament in the West Indies shortly before .
