The tour of the South African national cricket team to Australia in the 2008/09 season took place from December 6, 2008 to January 30, 2009. The international cricket tour was part of the 2008/09 international cricket season and included three test matches , two Twenty20s and five ODIs . South Africa won the Test series 2-1 and the ODI series 4-1, while Australia won the Twenty20 series 2-0.

prehistory

Australia last played the test series of the tour against New Zealand , South Africa a tour against Bangladesh . The last meeting of the two teams on a tour took place in the 2005/06 season in South Africa .
