English national cricket team in India in the 2001/02 season
The tour of the English national cricket team to India in the 2001/02 season took place from November 18, 2001 to February 3, 2002. The international cricket tour was part of the 2001/02 international cricket season and included three test matches and six ODIs . India won the test series 1-0, the ODI series ran out 3-3.
prehistory
India last played a tour in South Africa , England in Zimbabwe . The last meeting of the two teams in a tour took place in England in the 1996 season . After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in the USA , England checked their tour program, but decided to hold the tour in India. After the controversial ban of the Indian player Virender Sehwag for the first test on the tour in South Africa by referee Mike Denness , India set up Sehwag first. England responded by stating that if India did not accept the ban they would not carry out the first test. After the world association ICC got involved , India withdrew Sehwag for the first test. On December 18, 2001, the Indian association announced that England would host another ODI in addition to the five planned, which the English association ECB immediately denied. Shortly before the end of the year, the ECB announced that an agreement had been reached and that a sixth ODI would take place.
