English national cricket team in Zimbabwe in the 2004/05 season
The tour of the England national cricket team to Zimbabwe in the 2004/05 season took place from November 28th to December 5th, 2004. The international cricket tour was part of the 2004/05 international cricket season and included four ODIs . England won the series 4–0.
prehistory
Zimbabwe previously played a three-nation tournament in Pakistan, for England it was the first tour of the season. The last meeting of the two teams on a tour took place in the 2003 season in England . In January 2014 it became known that England was preparing to withdraw from the planned tour due to the human rights situation in Zimbabwe. The ICC refused the cancellation and threatened to sue the English association in the event of cancellation. The English government instructed the English federation not to conduct the tour, but the threat of the world federation to impose a suspension and a million dollar fine ensured that the tour was nevertheless confirmed in April. At the same time, the Zimbabwean Federation got into trouble after the suspension of several players who opposed the removal of captain Heath Streak . This incident also threatened the tour, as the world association considered suspending Zimbabwe and investigating the case. It should take until October before there was an agreement between the Zimbabwean association and the world association. This is how the tour took place, even if English players like Steve Harmison refused to take part.
