prehistory
It was the first tour of the season for both teams. The last meeting of the two teams on a tour took place in the 2000/01 season in New Zealand . Due to the human rights situation in Zimbabwe , there was pressure on the New Zealand team not to compete in Zimbabwe. However, the players were in favor of tours, so the tour took place even if the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the New Zealand Parliament tried to prevent the tour.
