The tour of the Sri Lankan national cricket team to New Zealand in the 1996/97 season took place from 7 to 27 March 1996. The international cricket tour was part of the 1996/97 international cricket season and included two tests and three ODIs . New Zealand won the Test Series 2-0, while the ODI Series 1-1 ended in a draw.

New Zealand previously played a tour against England and Sri Lanka a three-nation tournament in the United Arab Emirates . The last meeting of the two teams on a tour took place in the 1994/95 season in New Zealand .
